Consultant, and former CISO
Gary Cheetham is senior Cyber Security Consultant with extensive experience of Information Compliance, Security and Data Protection.
Until recently he held the position of Chief Information Security and Data Protection Officer for the NFU Mutual Insurance Group with strategic, tactical responsibility for Information Assurance and Security across the Group as well as directing the infrastructure outsource provider on the operational implementation of IT Security policies, procedures and processes.
Before this he held the role of Lead Architect within the Sainsbury’s retained team and initially worked with the outsourcer on Technical Strategy and Information Security. He was also became a member of the team who successfully transferred back in house all services provided by the outsourcer.
Prior to this Gary held global roles based in the London headquarters of British American Tobacco These included Chief Technology Architect providing co-ordination and programme management for the development, maintenance and communication of BAT’s Technology Blueprint and supporting roadmap, and Head of the Global Technology and Services group with a responsibility for the core infrastructure. He also had responsibility for IT Security and managed a significant global improvement programme. Gary joined BAT as part of the Rothmans merger in 1999 and was one of the IT Programme managers of this highly successful integration project.
Gary entered the Tobacco manufacturing industry in 1996, having previously worked in various positions in financial services organisations. These included senior IT roles with either a global or international remit for a Canadian Life Assurance company, a German Reinsurer, a US Management Consultancy and a US software developer of Insurance systems. Gary started off his career training to be an Actuary, and switched into IT where he worked in various technical and management roles providing a solid grounding for his future career.
Gary was also a Board member of the Information Security Forum and presented at the Annual Congress for a number of years.
